Physical Properties and Characteristics of Fabrics

"Making a prototype to fit a brief" means you will be learning about fabric types. Being able to define the physical properties and characteristics of fabric will help you to build understanding of fabric types, and how they suit different garments.
Check out the helpful images below, and for more detailed explanations visit this website.

What is a French Seam

WHAT IS A FRENCH SEAM?

A French seam is a double seam that encases the raw edge of the fabric. While this method takes a few extra steps, the result is a crisp, folded edge within your garments. Not only do French seams look great, your garment will likely fare better after repeated washing's. No raw edges means no fraying fabric!

Zigzag Stitch - Finishing Seams without an Overlocker

Use a zigzag stitch on the edge of fabrics or a seam to prevent fraying
